Graceful Closure’s new song is “safe” in all the right ways, pun completely intended.
There’s no doubt that many who will listen will detect some familiarity in the tone of the song. Influences from everyone from Maroon 5 and X Ambassadors to A R I Z O N A will jump out at savvy pop fans. Nothing is a rip off though. Graceful Closure shrewdly takes several tried and true elements and uses them to concoct an anthem that I could see really taking off.
So, critics might call this song playing it safe. I call it playing it safe too, albeit in a very, very smart way. Graceful Closure have consistently been demonstrative of their shrewdness in navigating the industry in recent months, garnering placement on multiple high profile Spotify playlists, and the attention of movers and shakers elsewhere – two of those folks being Sam Tinnesz (known for his solo work, as well as alter-egos Wave and Rome and Ghost Machines) and Josh Hawkins (alter-ego Super Duper), who helped Graceful Closure craft the song.
The song also echoes a refrain that Graceful Closure frequently references both in a live setting and on social media; “tonight, you are safe. We are safe.” They invite us to explore what this means together. Why don’t you start by listening to the song below, and letting us know what you get out of it?
