Premiere: The Roof Dogs rock us down to earth with “This Old Blues”

By Ryan G

Are you looking for something a little less rowdy and a little more down to earth, but still like loud music?

The Roof Dogs could be here for you, then.

“This Old Blues” is the first single off the rock and roll group’s forthcoming full length record, which they are in the process of wrapping up recording for. When you know the backstory behind the group, the feel of the song makes more sense. Humble beginnings from Granville, Ohio reflect in both the humble (and deliberately unpolished) production, and straightforward, easygoing songwriting.

Though the song is new, it makes me feel nostalgic in a way. I was born and raised a suburban kid, with parents from families with humble beginnings. When I travel outside of Columbus to see my grandparents I feel like I’m entering another place frozen in time. Things change, but the essentials stay the same.

The melody, and especially the harmonies in the chorus stand out in a way that isn’t overly proud, but not shy either. It just is what it is, and that’s okay.

I think that “Things change, but the essentials stay the same”  could be a mantra for the evolution of The Roof Dogs. Listen to the song and perhaps you’ll agree.

The Roof Dogs plan to tour early in 2018.
