Cure Culture is part of a new era of Columbus bands, it seems. I’ve been running this site long enough that I’ve seen one era of bands pass. A few still stand, a few have broken up, and a few are just casually moving along. And some of those are making big waves in the industry.
When I say I see a few freshman class of acts, I’m not referring to any old group of high school garage bands. These are the next serious contenders for Ohio and beyond. Cure Culture is one of these groups.
The trio humbly describe themselves as simply being pop rock but there’s an air of nostalgia inherent in their sound. The band’s second single from their forthcoming debut EP is titled “Remember,” and has a vague 90s vibe to it. Listening to this song actually brings Eve 6 to mind.
The video for the song carries a familiar tone yet the I encourage you to give the song a chance to pull you in. The sound, in my opinion, is timeless. In this era of electronica laced indie pop ruling the airwaves, some straightforward pensive pop rock can be a breath of fresh air. I could also see this song being more than suitable for a soundtrack for the afternoon commute from school or work.
Watch the video for “Remember” and let us know what you think.
