Premiere: The Giant and the Tailor – “Hurt Someone”

By Ryan G

The Giant & The Tailor from Nashville, TN are a rather unique band.

They still seem to be finding their identity, yet if “Hurt Someone” is any indication, they seem to be well on their way to staking their claim on the overcrowded Nashville scene. In a sea of indie pop, CCM, and country music The Giant & The Tailor are a unicorn. The trio mixes hip hop, spoken word, and a bit of emotive rock and roll – wait scratch that – a LOT of emotive rock and roll.

While the flow of “Hurt Someone” is undeniably hip hop, the cadence and tone of vocalist Britain Meithe’s words are undoubtedly from someone that holds their roots in spoken word poetry. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but the only place I’ve seen this combo be executed well outside of this band is in the work of Keyoung.

“Hurt Someone” is poignant yet full of attitude. Ending my day with this sound alone in my living room oddly doesn’t feel that out of place, though the music is loud and in my face. I’m looking foward to checking out the rest of The Giant & The Tailor’s EP The Detour when it drops later this week, Thursday August 11th.

The Giant and the Tailor will also be playing Tuned Up Loud, a show celebrating Tuned Up’s five years of existence and the louder side of what’s been on the blog.
