Murfreesboro, TN has quite the up and coming scene. Tuned Up favorites Mountains Like Wax hail from there, as well as bands like Lo Beggar and of course the quickly rising Julien Baker. Another band that is soon to be seizing 2016 is post-hardcore group Harper.
The group that as of now is made up of Matthew Penfound, Ethan Rider, and Jenson Koch released an EP called Get Home and then went quiet for awhile. The group had up until that point become known for their passionate lyrics, emotive tones, and rowdy live shows. Penfound’s sunny disposition might lead one to believe that he doesn’t write about heavy material – but that would be inaccurate.
“REHD” is everything that makes the band awesome, wrapped in a tight, more polished package. The song slowly builds into something explosive, but not quite in an “open up this pit” way. We at Tuned Up are happy to premiere the song for your listening pleasure. After streaming it below, you can download it here.
Expect to see Harper on the road more this year. Tuned Up hosted them in a rather epic house party with Comrades, Household, Keyoung, Eight Days From December, and Endeavor (now Reap and Sow) in the Fall of 2014 and it remains one of the favorite events we’ve ever been a part of. They will also be playing Audiofeed Festival alongside Josh Garrels, Emery, Wolves at the Gate and more this July.
