Concert Photography: Basement and Turnstile at Skully’s

Words and Photos by Michael Buchsieb (Do not use photos without express written permission)

A rainy day couldn’t really stop my good mood for the Basement/ Turnstile co-headliner last night in Columbus. Defeater set the tone for the night with an in your face set. The four-piece hardcore band out of Massachusetts warmed the crowd up for the true chaos that was approaching. Turnstile took the stage and the energy of the room peaked. I was particularly excited for them, as I have been a longtime fan, and watching the energy of their concerts from videos was something I knew I needed to see in person. With the first sounds of feedback from the amplifiers, people began to open a pit and stage dive into the crowd before the songs even began. The tornado of energy that Turnstile showed on stage was truly hypnotizing and flat out fun. My neck is sore from head banging along as I snapped countless pictures of high kicks, stage dives, and microphone grabbing fans. Basement closed out the night with a solid set and spectacular light display. I never really gave Basement a solid listen before the show, but they are 100% worth checking out and are spectacular performers. Overall, this was one of the most energizing and fun shows I have shot. Already anticipating the next time I get to see the “Turnstile Tribe” take the stage in Columbus again.
