Sometimes you discover good things by covering other, related good things. Previously featured Maize is friends with Peter Campbell, an indie artist based out of Boston, MA with roots in Columbus, Ohio. His EP, available for free on Noisetrade, carries bits and pieces of Local Natives, Jack Johnson, and a bit of 90s alternative rock. Campbell’s vocals will be an acquired taste for some; if The National made a pop record it might sound like this.

High Energy Physics is a new Chicago-based project from Steve Slagg, a name you might recognize from our Youngest Son review that was posted not too long ago. Slagg partners with fellow Wheaton College alumnus Lee Ketch (of Mooner) and a few others in this band, which has an EP out and much more on the way! HEP carries a driving indie alternative sound, that although not entirely unique, is still good. I can hear bits of Queens of the Stone Age meshed in with the power pop sound that permeates the tunes.
