This party-witch-rock duo has their grasp on Columbus. They’re not quite sure how that happened, but they’re ecstatic and have no plans to slow down. Their crowd pleasing provocative electropop will surely rock the Dude Locker at the sixth free Worst Kept Secret Fest. As Halloween approaches, the band will likely address that to a degree… how can you have “witch” in your name and not?
The duo are currently expanding their empire by constructing their own studio, named after Z Wolf’s late grandmother. The songstress and Z Wolf are currently running a crowd funding campaign in an effort to make their mark on Columbus above and beyond the establish “Damn the Witch Siren” brand, and you can get the details and possibly donate a few bucks here.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/145262699″ /]Look for the band to continue their rise in the region and for them to hit the road soon in addition to all of their behind the scenes work! Z Wolf aka Nathan Photos took some time to fill out our Worst Kept Secret Fest Q&A:
Tuned Up: What beverage goes best with a live performance from you guys?
Z Wolf: My own personal taste would have me say straight whiskey, but if our music were actually a drink it would probably be something sweet and tangy and neon-colored with an umbrella in it.
What’s the most interesting environment you’ve played in?
We haven’t done a ton of shows yet, so just the standards so far: a few clubs, house parties, backyard barbecues. But we like to record at Inniswood Gardens in the middle of the night. Don’t tell on us!!
What’s the most memorable show you’ve attended as a spectator?
I have attended far too many amazing shows to pick just one. Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, The Blood Brothers, Gwen Stefani, and Opeth were all about as good as it gets. Yes, I have seen Gwen Stefani AND Opeth. Don’t judge me.
For Bobbi it was Silverchair at the Newport.
The best show we’ve attended together so far was Morrissey at the LC.
What song dominated your playlist last summer?
For me it was “Pop It” by Anamanaguchi. For Bobbi I think it was “Plain Gold Ring” by Kimbra.
What are you looking forward to about this fall?
Everything!! We live for fall. Pumpkins! Tea! Scarves! Leaves! Candles! Dark music! Horror movies! Witches! Wolves! Amazing events every week! Cornfields! The crispness of the air! The inevitable zombie apocalypse! Aaaaaaah we can’t wait!!!
What musician should we be paying the most attention to in Ohio (besides you, duh)?
Angela Perley, The Girls! and Sleepers Awake.
Describe the experience of your music in five words.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
What currently active artist would you most like to play with (sky’s the limit)?
Jeez, Ryan, why do you have to ask the tough questions? I guess we feel like Grimes is a kindred spirit. Or Kimbra. Or The Knife, even though they’re about to call it quits.
What’s your favorite album of 2014? What record are you most stoked about (unreleased)?
Honestly it’s a tie between “Let’s Not Be Friends” by The Girls! and “Hey Kid” by Angela Perley. We’re not just saying that because they’re friends. They’re both phenomenal records and we’ve been listening to them non-stop. Bobbi and I were both pretty dumbfounded and excited when we realized that locally-made records have topped both our personal “Best Albums of 2014” lists.
The records I’m most excited about at the moment are the new Aphex Twin and the new…Pink Floyd?!?! That feels so weird to say!
Where can we find you guys the most around Columbus (or your hometown)? Studio/home don’t count!
At shows! Or, after shows, at Late Nite Slice!
