Ray recommends: Revivalist

There are times I am late to the show so to speak. That appears to be the case with the band Revivalist. Revivalist is brutal 5 piece spirit-filed hXc band from Texas. They released their debut EP back in October and man, is this good. The founder of this blog and I have been talking about a resurgence that is going on in the Christian hXc scene. Well, we can these guys to that list of bands. I expect to be seeing more of their name in the next few months.

Spotify is one of my most-used avenues for streaming music, and being a free user means that I hear ads every so often. Typically these ads are just annoying, but last week that was not the case, at least not on two occasions.

The first “ad” was for a Finnish band called Satellite Stories. What really caught my attention about them in the ad was the horn section featured in the clip of “The Trap,” so naturally I had to click on the link and hear the entire song. The music of Satellite Stories is branded as “party rock,” and it makes sense because the song is just fun as a whole.

My other recent discovery thanks to a Spotify ad was the bluesy Austin natives known as The Bright Light Social Hour. Their song “Slipstream” has a nice retro feel to it, and melds bluesy rock with a taste of psychedelia. The single is taken from the band’s forthcoming effort Space is Still the Place, which is slated for release on March 10th.
