RELEVANT DISCOVERIES FOR THE WEEK OF 4/15/16

One of my absolute favorite things I love doing is finding new music. It’s one of those things that bring me complete happiness and joy.  I listen to so much music that when I find something that I like it is almost like Christmas morning. Over the years I have come to know of new bands in a number of ways; live shows, magazines and my favorite, word of mouth. Word of mouth is by far my favorite method of finding new bands. Be it on social media by talking to people on Facebook or talking to people at shows. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and I know for a fact that half the bands I listen to that I wouldn’t if not for it. The reason I mention this is that is how I came to know of 2/3 bands in this week’s Relevant Discoveries.

Valleyheart

I came to know of this band last month when Tuned Up favorites Foreveratlast were on tour. Drummer Jared Paris posted about them. And knowing that he has good taste in music, I decided to check them out. And holy smokes I really liked what I heard. Over the past month they have become one of daily listens.  Bands like Copeland, Balance and Composure, Acceptance and even Brand New come to mind when I listen to them. So if you like any of those bands I would 100% recommend giving Valleyheart a listen. I can also see this band catching fire here soon.

Cold Collective

A few weeks a good friend of mine posted a Cold Collective song on my Facebook page saying he thought this was a band I would enjoy. Upon listening to the song he posted I got a hint of Transit. So like any music fan I did some research and what do I find out? Yep the band holds a former member, Tim Landers amongst their ranks.  As a fan of Transit once I found that out I liked them even more. They do have a little hint of Transit but this is a different beast. The few songs I’ve heard I am reminded of alt-rock from the mid-90s. So that’s a good thing. I look forward to hearing more when their debut album comes out May 15th on Rise Records.

Creeper

This is a band that has ruled my 2016 thus far. Their sound, their look and everything about them has me in a trance.  If you are a fan of AFI, My Chemical Romance, The Misfits and Alkaline Trio then I highly suggest this band for you. This is the band you have been missing in your life. As far as I know they have not yet played a show on American soil as they are British. I was hoping they were Warped this summer as that would have been the perfect introduction for them to American audiences. Much like Moose Blood last summer. Meanwhile in their home country they are a band on the rise. They have toured with bands such as Neck Deep, Black Veil Brides, Bayside and Funeral for a Friend while also playing such festivals as Download, Hevy, Leeds and Reading and Warped Tour UK. So it’s only a matter of time before they conquer the states. And I will be waiting with open arms.
