Premiere: Skyline Hotel – “Make Me Sway”

There used to be a Columbus band called Soul Monsters that knew how to make folks dance, and had the musical chops to back it up. They weren’t a one trick pony. Unfortunately, they broke up last year. Skyline Hotel, I think, represent what an evolution of that band might have sounded like. The two bands I highly doubt know each other, but that’s the connection I have in my mind.

You gotta love that falsetto in the chorus. That makes my mind jump to Walk the Moon. I don’t think Skyline Hotel is at the level of crafting “Shut Up and Dance” sorts of anthems yet, but that’s perfectly alright. I think the emphasis here is as much on the overall composition of the song as it is on crafting a hook. When one is able to write a strong hook backed by instrumentation with ample thought behind it, you have a winning combination.

Enjoy “Make Me Sway” below – we’re the first blog (that I know of) to stream it! And also – the band’s new EP Sparks of Light is out now!
