Premiere: Riverhorse brings the zoned out melancholy with “Short Stories”

By Ryan G

Tuned Up has another exclusive premiere for ya!

Riverhorse is a band from Joliet, IL. That’s a tad outside of Chicago. Close enough to be in the suburbs but far enough away to feel like it’s own little world outside of the city.

In a way the sound of this band goes along with that little geographical anecdote I just penned. The music is in the same ballpark as some big, familiar names. The vocals fall somewhere between Jim James of My Morning Jacket fame, or Manchester Orchestra. But the end result is something a bit more drawn out.

Indeed “zoned out melancholy” describes this track just as aptly as “steady groove” does. The vocals exist somewhere between a somber and a content tone. Perhaps those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. You should listen and be the judge.

Riverhorse sums up this sentiment in a way I feel is right on the money:

“Short Stories is one of the oldest songs we have, written before this band even existed. It is about the many people we pass in our day to day lives without knowing much about them. It is about easily a person can become lost, and it is about how a person can suddenly be found. It’s a song for every tiny observation. It’s the places we go inside ourselves, and the way we bring others in with us.”

Riverhorse has a new record releasing on February 16th. Check out the lead single and let us know what you think!
