Those Manic Seas – I heard about these guys a few months ago when my friend Derek from The Ghost Town Railroad saw these guys at King Avenue 5 (or maybe GTR opened for them? I’m not sure). I remember being a little weirded out about the fact that they have a mannequin with a TV head as a singer, yet for some reason I never got around to checking them out. Turns out they have an awesome post punk meets ambient math rock sound. AND! Their forthcoming record is being produced in part by Mutemath’s Darren King. I also had the chance to catch this Richmond group live and while the unique singer situation risks being gimmicky after awhile, it’s a heckuva trademark. Check out their newly released single, “Outlier”, below:

The Giant and the Tailor – Straight out of Nashville is a band that sounds like a mix of Listener, MewithoutYou and Least of These. Spoken word full of passion. Melodies that lull you into a state of deep thought and attention. I first heard of these guys when I recognized a guy from a Mutemath show posting in a fan group on Facebook. I found myself connecting with many people at that show through a sense of camaraderie even though most of them I did not meet. I think that’s what compelled me to check out this guy’s band, and I’m glad I did. Watch a video for “Jersey” below:
