I have been extremely excited leading up to this show. Modern Baseball have become one of my favorite bands the past three years, and I have been fortunate enough to catch them live three times prior to this night. Just kicking off their tour to promote their latest record “Holy Ghost”, Run For Cover record’s Modern Baseball (MoBo, for short) put on one heck of a show.
Opening up the night at Bogart’s was Philadelphia’s Thin Lips. With fun energetic and punk edged songs, they warmed the crowd up very well for what was to come.
Joyce Manor took the stage with much excitement from the crowd. Going straight into their upbeat and fast hit “Heart Tattoo”, they took the stage and crowd by storm. They played an excellent set, and relished the fact that they were playing to such a big and fun crowd.
When it came time for MoBo to take the stage, the crowd erupted in cheers. Starting off the set with their opening tracks from the latest release “Holy Ghost” and “Wedding Singer”, they started strong and ran to the finish just the same. Playing songs from all three of their major releases, and even a few tunes (such as “Cooke”) that they haven’t played live in quite a while.
The Holy Ghost tour just kicked off, and sadly both Ohio dates (they played The Agora the next night) have came and gone. If you can catch MoBo on tour, don’t miss you chance. After seeing them four times now, they really just keep getting better, and watching them go from an opening act band to headlining shows at big crowded venues has been awesome.
