Audiofeed 2017 preview: Vagabonds

By Ryan G

Vagabonds is significant to the Tuned Up fam.

Our writer Ray Cobra noted the project of Luke Dean was his favorite set, second to My Epic at Audiofeed 2015. Vagabonds also played the first ever Steadfast Festival alongside The Soil and the Sun, OceanSpeak and more.

This year is sure to be extra special. Vagabonds’ debut full length will drop on Blood and Ink Records. The album, titled I Don’t Know What To Do Now, is currently streaming on Alt. Press, which is pretty dang nifty.

So, we hope you’ll take the time to soak up our Q&A with Luke below. Some of my (Ryan’s) favorite answers thus far!

Tuned Up: What’s your favorite Audiofeed memory? If you haven’t been yet, what are you looking forward to?

Vagabonds: Playing the Front Porch Stage the first year I was there was awesome. Kids were hanging from the rafters and piling on all while yelling along. It felt perfect.

If any band that no longer exists could headline a show you play, who would it be?

The obvious answer for me is My Chemical Romance. If not that, though, it would have to be Have Heart.

What records and/or songs have had heavy rotation these past few months for you?

A couple of my favorite songs right now are “To You” by Andy Shauf and “Cynicism” by Nana Grizol. As far as albums go, I usually have Kindly Now by Keaton Henson and Drag It Down on You by Ceres on these days. Also, I’m all about the new Pictures Of Vernon. All things Mark Kozelek are usually in the mix as well. Lately it’s been his solo stuff and the collaboration with Jesu.

Describe your music with language as if you’re ordering a five course meal.

Really, it would just be a peach. That’s it. Simple, sweet, and fuzzy.

Do you remember the first album you purchased/received? What was it?

I do actually. The first one I bought if I remember correctly was Move Along by The All American Rejects.

Who on the Audiofeed lineup (other than your band), has a don’t miss set? You can only pick one (or two).

There is only one answer: David Bazan. If there were two, I’d throw Advent in there.

Have you ever come across an exceptionally good (or bad) tattoo job? What was it?

Shane Cox face tattoos.

Are there any summer movies you’re especially looking forward to this year?

Television rots your brain.

What’s the ONE THING your music is trying to communicate to the world?

I think Akon said it best:
“I get it in ’till sunrise
Doing ninety in a sixty five
Windows rolled down screaming ah!
Hey-ey-ey’ I’m so paid
Number one hustla’ gettin’ money
Why do you wanna count my money
I’m a hustla’ and I don’t need them! One of them y’all see! I’m so paid”
