Audiofeed 2017 preview: Earthholder

By Ryan G

One of the best parts of Audiofeed is the discovery acts. Those bands who aren’t on the official poster. That one might find on an impromptu or unofficial set. Sometimes, an artist will just set up wherever they can find a power source.

Earthholder is a band I randomly happened upon when planning this preview series. The group might have a name that makes you think of metalcore, (…maybe it’s just me) but the band has embraced a unique instrumental sludgy brand of post rock that isn’t too far off from what O’Brother does.

The band released an EP called “Don’t Worry, We Feel It Too” in May, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot of this record during their Audiofeed performance. The music seems to be less about evoking emotion and more about enveloping the listener in a wall (maybe blanket?) of sound, but that’s me.

Keep an ear out for these guys, regardless if you’re headed to Audiofeed or not. Check out our Q&A with the band below and jam a song from their EP:

Tuned Up: What’s your favorite Audiofeed memory? If you haven’t been yet, what are you looking forward to?

Earthholder: Most of us haven’t made it to Audiofeed yet. The comraderie and community aspect of it seems to be awesome already. Looking forward to that, as well as the diverse lineup of bands we normally don’t get to play with.

If any band that no longer exists could headline a show you play, who would it be?

As Cities Burn or Pedro the Lion

What records and/or songs have had heavy rotation these past few months for you?

O’Brother, Lowercase Noises and Russian Circles

Describe your music with language as if you’re ordering a five course meal.

A soft emotional heavy pounding release……..of Nashville Hot Chicken.

Do you remember the first album you purchased/received? What was it?

– P.O.D. The Fundamental Elements of Southtown
– MXPX- Ever Passing Moment

Who on the Audiofeed lineup (other than your band), has a don’t miss set? You can only pick one (or two).

Comrades & David Bazan

Have you ever come across an exceptionally good (or bad) tattoo job? What was it?

A good friend’s brother created a tattoo machine out of a pencil with a soldered on needle and a CD motor. He gave himself a really terrible cross tattoo with a heart that looked like a prison tattoo.

Are there any summer movies you’re especially looking forward to this year?

Alien Covenant

What’s the ONE THING your music is trying to communicate to the world?

Being an instrumental band, we like the idea of disconnecting, while letting the music take you.
