Audiofeed 2016 preview: Problem of Pain

By Ryan G

One of the most hyped bands amongst my hardcore loving peers recently has without a doubt been Problem of Pain. All you would have to say to me is three words when introducing a new band to me and I would say “say no more” – those words are “Blood and Ink.” Yep, the label home to bands like Household, Comrades, and the now defunct Burden of a Day.

I think all you need to do to get an idea of the attitude of this band is read the answer to the first question below, though I hope you’ll read the whole interview.

To get myself a bit more familiar with the duo, I watched the following video:

I tell you, if you like heavy music and you’re not hyped after those 88 seconds of getting punched in the face you might not have a soul. Amongst returning Audiofeed favorites like Church Tongue, Ghost Key, and Household, Problem of Pain are sure to get the hardcore kids going. I predict a battle set on the Front Porch between them and Household. You’re welcome guys, I’ll let you have that one for free. Interview answers are denoted G for Garret Finch and J for Jake Beaver.

Tuned Up: Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?

My Epic, Deftones, Axis, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, Korn, In The Midst Of Lions, Spider Mansion, Heavens Die, Household, The Chariot, Oathbreaker, Emery, Old Wounds, the list could go on forever haha. And somewhere in the Appalachians if that’s possible? – G&J

What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?

Hesitation Wounds, Infinite Me, Pierre, Eternal Sleep – J

New Spider Mansion, Dwell, Poured Out, Oathbreaker – G&J

What summer movie are you most looking forward to?

Suicide Squad baby! – J

Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?

Because we all experience pain. – G

Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?

So many great friends are playing but me personally I’m excited to see Emery. After worshiping the album “The Question” in 6th/7th grade I can’t wait to see it played in full. At least I heard that’s what they’re playing haha. – J

If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?

Challenge critical thinking – G

What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.

Hollow Earth. – J

What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?

My Summer (Shove It) – Deftones – G
Summer Breeze – Seals & Croft – J

What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?

How the darkest places in life are often the most holy and rewarding because that is where Christ breaks you down enough to get your attention and He shows you how great He is. Bad things are things that we all experience. A little under a year ago I felt beaten down too far to believe in a God that wants the best for us, but through seeking after Him to literally force an answer as to “why” it was all happening He met me there. – J
