Audiofeed 2016 preview: Death Therapy

By Ryan G

Remember the band Becoming the Archetype? I’m slightly ashamed to say I forgot about that band until just now. Well, BTA bassist Jason Wisdom has a heavy but groovy solo project that ought to win lots of BTA fans over and more.

The bass guitar driven act mixes elements of metal, goth, and new wave in one foreboding symphony of sounds driven by one dude.

I’m not sure what to expect from Death Therapy’s live show. I’ve seen different variations of bass driven acts and I’m curious to see how the Audiofeed audience will react. If there’s a place for Leper and other goth acts, there certainly ought to be a place for Death Therapy.

Get to know Jason a bit more below:

Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?

Well, ideally, the festival would be in the North GA mountains. That’s very close to where I live, and I’ve always thought it would be a great place for a festival. As for who would play it…I’d have to resurrect a lot of my favorite old bands that either broke up or don’t play much anymore. Five Iron Frenzy, Supertones, MXPX, Insyderz, Ghoti Hook, Squad 5-0, Blaster the Rocket Man, and Grave Robber on the Punk Stage. Demon Hunter, Zao, Living Sacrifice, Embodyment, and Extol on the Metal Stage.

What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?

I am going to break your heart and tell you that I haven’t listened to much (if any) new music in 2016. Sorry. If I am in my car with time to listen to anything, I usually listen to podcasts or talk radio. It’s a sign of getting old I guess.

What summer movie are you most looking forward to?

Again, I hate to be the stick in the mud, but I haven’t been to the movies in forever. I have small children now, and there is really no opportunity to go. Plus it’s crazy expensive these days. Yep, sounds like I’m getting old.

Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?

We blend elements of death metal, electronica, groove, and progressive metal into one easy to listen to package.

Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?

I can’t wait to see Flatfoot 56. I have been playing festivals with them for at least a decade now, and they are always a highlight for me. Great show. Great guys.

If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?

To glorify God by making music that is both technically proficient, accessible, lyrically honest and spiritually challenging for the listener.

What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.

A good friend of mine from high school named Levi Lowery writes amazing country/americana music.

What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?

Anything ska or punk will do that to me. Takes me right back to spending summers at Cornerstone.

What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?

Learning to be intentional about using times of struggle as an act of worship to God. Rather than letting them be something purely negative or to pull me down further, but focusing on him during those times.
