Best of 2013 – Ray Moore’s picks

Just when I think music won’t get better it goes and proves me wrong. 2012 was amazing for music. Well 2013 was able to top it. There was so much great music this year. I have been doing this list for 7 years now and this was the hardest year ever. Man this was great. I can’t get over all the music. So enough talking, let’s get to my top ten.

Close-Your-Eyes-Line-in-the-Sand10. Close Your Eyes – Line In The Sand: This album was much better than I thought it would be. I was sure they had reached their peak like a lot of other bands in their genre but I was wrong. These guys are just getting started.

righteousvendetta9. Righteous Vendetta – The Fire Inside: These guys have crafted an album that is a good mix of hardcore and rock. One second you hear a song that is a radio song and the next song is one you know would never get played because it’s too heavy. The thing about this album that really sticks out for me is the lyrics.

kacey-musgraves-same-trailer-different-park8. Kacey Musgraves – Same Trailer Different Park:  Welcome to the party Kasey. The last decade or so country music has become so poppy that it hurts. However in the past few years we have seen the raise of pure country again, but it’s been all men, until now. Kasey is what country music should be.   She is primed and ready to knock Taylor Swift off her pedestal. And I for one I’m stoked.

least-of-these-change-will-come7. Least of These – Change Will Come:  I like music with feelings. This album is just that. I like to listen to Christian music when I do homework and this is one of my favorites for that. All I’m going to say is it takes me longer to do homework when this album is on.

betteroff6. Better Off – (I Think) I’m Leaving: Better Off are part of this new group of pop-punk/emo bands from Nashville, TN that are all putting out great records. These guys however put out the best one.  I’m excited to see how they follow this release. It’s that good.

myepicbehold5. My Epic – Behold: My list would have been done sooner but I knew this album was going to be released late in the year. It was worth the wait. This album makes me think and I love that. It makes me think about my relationship with the guy above. This album may become my new homework album.

johnmoreland4. John Moreland – In the Throes:  If you don’t know who this guy is, you need to. John Moreland hands down is one of the best singer-songwriters around today. The emotion that comes off this album is uncanny. After I heard it the first time, I listened to it for 3 days straight.

JasonIsbellReview3003. Jason Isbell – Southeastern: If you would have told me a few years ago that Jason Isbell was going to write one of the best albums of 2013 I would have laughed at you. Yes he wrote some of my favorite songs by the Drive By Truckers when he was with them but this record exceeds anything he ever did with them.

The_Greatest_Generation_The_Wonder_Years_Album_Cover2. The Wonder Years – The Greatest Generation: This is a band that just keeps getting better and better. Just when I think their newest album is the best they have, the next one tops it. It has been that way with every release.  They have raised the bar for any pop punk band. This album has changed the genre. That’s all I have to say.

havemercy1. Have Mercy – The Earth Pushed Back: Like I said above I like records that make me feel. This release does just that. Every time I listen to it I just get lost in all sorts of emotions. I love this album. For the last few years I have been searching for my next great band since you know who decided to break up.  I think I have found that band. This album is great. ‘Nuff said!!!
