So if you know me at all you know that I live for music. So anytime I get the chance to see live music I will. That is one way I find out about new bands. This was the case for sure on July 2, 2013 in Columbus, Oh at The Summit. The buzz was about two bands from Columbia; Again and Exegesis. I mean, how many times will I get the chance to two metal bands from South America? The two locals were also pretty good in their own right. Overall it was a very good show. All the bands were different in their own way and that was good. They all put all they had into their sets and that was great to see. Columbus missed a very good show that night.
The first local band was Plastic Kasket. From the moment I saw this group I was curious about them. The reason was they were 16 year olds wearing Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Judas Priest tee shirts. Yeah, a total shocker to this writer. Kids these days don’t listen to metal like that. It’s all about Asking Alexandria, Attila, Pierce The Veil and bands of that nature. So with that been said I could not wait to hear them. They did not disappoint. Hearing these kids play was like going back in time. They had a very thrash metal sound and they did it right. It was refreshing to see a band with this sound. I feel we don’t that often. This is a band that has done their homework. I look forward to hearing more from this band.
The next band up was Again. They were one of the two Colombian bands playing. I had no clue what to expect from these guys, I just knew they were a form of hard rock and that they were good guys. At the sound of the first note I knew this set was going to rock. I was right. I couldn’t understand what the singer was saying but that was okay. I felt the energy and passion from these guys and that was enough for me. I also tend to base how good a band is by how much I mosh or hardcore dance and I must say that my friends and I did lots of moshing during this set.
Resistance Movement was the next band up. They were another band I had not seen or heard but I knew who they were. I had seen the name before so I was looking forward to their set. This was one of the first shows with the new line up for these guys. They have a new vocalist and drummer. And according to a few concert goers this is the best they have sounded. Having never seen them I could not tell, I was under the impression that the 4 of them had been playing together for a while. Their set was very tight. This is a band that will definitely continue to grow over time. In the next few years they will be mentioned amongst the best hard rock/metal bands in Columbus.
The last band of the evening was the almighty Exegesis, the other band from Colombia. Much like the other band I had no clue what I was about to listen to. I just knew they were Christian, wore face paint and were good guys. All things that are awesome to this writer. So yeah this was going to be a solid set. Turns out I was correct. Exegesis blew the roof off of the Summit. At one point I thought they might, they were just that loud at times. The drummer from Again translated for the band between songs and most of what was said was about Christ which is always awesome to hear at a show. These guys are passionate about their beliefs and music, and both were at the forefront on this night. They were very in tune with each other throughout the set and the keyboardist was very animated which added another element to them.
Overall this was a good night of metal/hard rock. It was a shame that the crowd was a little low but the good thing was all the bands supported each other. The night had a family atmosphere and that was very nice to see. I love seeing people that are passionate about things share that with others and that was what this night was.
