Commentary: ETHNO TEKH (a new way to perform)

By Ryan G

This is without a doubt one of the coolest ideas to grace the I AM TUNED UP feed so far. Any gaming fans out there? Chances are you’ve heard of Kinect – the motion based interface that goes with the XBox 360. What if music could be controlled onstage by motion sensors alone? Watch the below demo video of ETHNO TEKH to see what I mean:

Cool eh? Ideally in our opinion this wouldn’t constitute a whole show – at least not immediately. I could see the price for one of these systems shrinking down to the price of a Kinect, putting potential for live performance augmentation well within the reach of many live bands. Could this be the next trend? MUTEMATH, with all your innovative performing techniques maybe you should take notice. Also, ETHNO TEKH is the artist currently putting his energy into developing this live technique (check him out here) but who says one needs to copy him? Motion sensory techniques could go a myriad of directions.

Fans, would you be more likely to go to a show incorporating this?
Musicians, what do you think?
