The rise of EDM = a good investment!

Turn on your top 40 radio station.  Odds are, you’ll hear a song within ten minutes that’s EDM influenced.

What is EDM? EDM is an acronym for Electronic Dance Music.  This explosion of popularity began a couple years ago with artists like deadmau5 and today the movement is spearheaded by dubstep king Skrillex and carried onto top 40 radio with acts like David Guetta and LMFAO.   Local artists are developing their own cult followings, such as Columbus’ roeVy and twenty | one | pilots (recently signed by Fueled By Ramen).  In the weekly Next Big Sound charts featured on this site, multiple EDM artists are usually present, with no repeats.  The business world is taking notice.

Enter Live Nation (symbol – LYV).  Hate on the company for it’s virtual promotion monopoly all you want – their head guy Bob Sillerman is savvy.  According to this hypebot article, the 64 year old is founding a new promotional company solely focused on EDM which he is calling SFX.  He hopes to take the company public as soon as this summer!  With the existing Live Nation stock trading relatively low (8-9 dollar range at the time of this posting), I believe the market will react positively to SFX.  Plus, summer concert season can only be a good thing for the company with the myriad of ampitheatre and festival events planned.
