SXSW: An unlikely role for the homeless

By Ryan G

Check out today’s report from Pitchfork.  Apparently in the past internet connectivity in public areas has been an issue in Austin during the SXSW festival.  The solution? WiFi hubs managed by homeless people.  As the articles states, the idea stems from the long running concept of street newspapers.  Eventually, the firm in charge hopes to use this means to move the homeless demographic online, in the form of a writing presence.  Honestly, other than exposure I’m not sure how getting the homeless to write online could improve their plight a whole lot but I do appreciate the 100% compensation model. What do you think?
